Signs Your Home May Need Repiping

What to watch for in Salem and Keizer homes, and what’s probably just a repair

Repair or Repipe? How to Tell

Most plumbing problems are not a reason to replace every pipe. A leak at a fitting or a failing valve is often a simple repair. A whole house repipe makes sense when the pipes themselves are wearing out and the repairs keep coming.

We’re a local husband-and-wife team, and our promise is simple: we diagnose first and only recommend repiping when the evidence supports it. If a smaller fix will do, we’ll say so. Here are the signs that point toward the pipes themselves.

Signs That Match Your Home’s Age

The year your home was built tells you what to look for:

When a Repair Is Probably Enough

One leak at a fitting, a single noisy valve or low pressure at only one faucet are usually repairs. A repipe is a bigger decision, and we don’t recommend it lightly. We listen to your concerns, diagnose the actual problem and explore other options if they make sense.

If a repipe is the right call, you get a clear written quote after our inspection, and once the job is quoted there are no surprises. Not sure which side of the line you’re on? Our whole home plumbing inspection gives you a clear picture before you decide anything.

The Swell Way: Honest answers. Clear options. Quality work, every time. No pressure, no gimmicks, no surprise pricing once your job is quoted. That’s how Jason Garsjo runs every job.

Common Questions About Repiping Signs

How many leaks does it take before I should think about repiping?

There’s no magic number. What matters is the pattern. If leaks keep appearing in different places, or the pipes are a type known to wear out (older galvanized, aging copper or polybutylene), repiping deserves a serious look.

No. Low pressure can come from a failing pressure regulator, a partly closed valve or a clogged fixture. If pressure is low throughout the home and your pipes are old galvanized steel, internal corrosion becomes a stronger suspect.

It usually points to corroding pipes or sediment. Have it checked, especially if it persists. For questions about your water quality, contact your water provider.

Often yes. We use specialized tools to find hidden lines and leaks, which limits how much of the wall or floor needs to be opened.

It depends on the pipe type and condition. Some systems give you years of warning, others fail suddenly. An inspection tells you where your system stands so you can plan instead of reacting to a flood.
